Futures Positive Beginnings

About Us

Positive Beginnings is an all day centre, providing quality care and education for children 6mths – 4 years old. It is located just around the corner from Futures Early Education in a warm and welcoming environment. Stepping into Futures Positive Beginnings is like stepping into a home and this eases children’s transition into early learning.

“Children have a much greater enthusiasm and capacity to learn when they’re happy and at ease in their surroundings.”

Our teaching team is 100% qualified and registered and is supported in its professional growth by the Nelson District Kindergarten Association’s senior advisory teaching team. Our commitment to maintaining a fully trained staff and to low teacher/child ratios give an indication of the high quality you can expect here.
Group sizes are small with just 8 children in the baby room and similarly small numbers (18) in the over-two area. The ratio of just one to four for under-twos and a primary caregiver approach means that teachers form close bonds with the children, especially important for positive development in babies and young toddlers.
As well as close bonds with teachers it is important for children to form rich relationships with each other in a constant group of friends, and with uninterrupted periods of time for play. It is in this way that learning can flow in the natural direction of children’s interests, increasing their engagement and the depth of their learning. Six hour sessions, with no transitions midway, sustain that flow. This provides stability across the day and ultimately supports their transition to Futures Early Education. Because children will have preferential enrolment into Futures Early Education you won’t have to worry about looking for childcare again.

Learning principles such as curiosity and perseverance are fostered and opportunities for early literacy are woven throughout the programme. We support our children to develop these skills and attitudes and they move onto Futures Early Education feeling confident, competent and eager to learn.
